It’s one thing when a person cooks for you, but it’s another when Kuya cooks for you. Especially when you know he doesn’t do that often. That’s why you deem these rare occasionsas very special moments, and therefore something you shouldn’t miss.

But just imagine Kuya preparing his delicious dishes for you every time. You would definitely want to be present at every dinner. Because everything is special, when it comes to Kuya.

That is the picture that will be always captured in the new restaurant in town, Kuya J.

WHO IS KUYA J?

Kuya J is a casual dining restaurant that offers great Filipino gastronomic delights using quality and unique tasting dishes in a homey dining experience that relaxes you…enveloping you with the warmth and care of a brother.

What can you expect from Kuya J? You can always count on him to adapt local cuisine and add a different spin to each dish. His signature dishes, namely Crispy Pata, Grilled Scallops, LumpiaPresko, Crispy Catfishand Tablea Coffee Flan are definitely a must try.

Kuya J values meaningful bonds above anything else. That is why he serves delectable Filipino dishes in a comfortable atmosphere. The interiors themselves feel a lot like Kuya’s room: the modern dining furniture, the warm lighting fixtures and the signature bookshelves filled with books of various topics. Once you step inside, you’ll be received with a wholehearted welcome and a good-natured staff.

Here are some of the food served during the opening..

Grilled Scallops

Chorizo Dinamitas with Garlic Dip

Lumpia Presko

Mangga Tuna Salad

Kare-Kare

Ginataang Monggo

Binagoongan Rice

Ampalaya Con Carne

Crispy Pata

Mango Cheesecake

Coffee Tablea Flan

Mango Pandan

Among my favorites were the grilled scallops, coffee tablea flan, ginataang monggo and of course, the crispy pata.

Kuya J promotes family gatherings and love for food, that’s why affordability is a must. So don’t worry about the price points because Kuya J will always give a value for money. You’ll even be surprised at how much you can eat on a limited budget. At Kuya J’s, there’s more fun for everyone.

Kuya J has finally arrived in Manila to share his brotherly love, in the form of his delicious meals. Just last Saturday, celebrity siblings Camille and John Prats plus Phil and James Younghusband graced the opening of Kuya J at SM City Novaliches to spend their sibling bonding moments along with other guests.

Aside from SM Novaliches, Kuya J has also opened branches in SM City Marikina, SM City BF Parañaque and SM Sta. Mesa. Kuya J will soon open a branch in GMA, as well as stores in nearby Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. So that eventually, Kuya J will spread his brotherly love all over the country!

Just to share with you, I spent my birthday dinner at Kuya Js restaurant in SM BF Paranaque with friends.

Ordered those that became my favorites during the grand opening and the one dish that wasn't served, the danggit rice. And no doubt, we all loved the rice, crispy pata, scallops and tablea flan. Ambiance was A-okay as well.

Looking forward of dining in at Kuya J restaurant.
Rice has been part of our basic necessities. That's how important it is. We have variations available - white, brown and hybrid to name a few. And now there's another type of rice to be added, the RiCo corn rice.

In pursuit of a healthy lifestyle, there's no need to deprive ourselves of the pleasure of a good meal. With RiCo corn rice, we can now have the best of both worlds.

100% made of Philippine-grown corn

RiCo corn rice is made from 100% Philippine-grown corn fortified with iron and calcium. It tastes just like any regular rice we know but it provides the nutrition of corn. Each grain is naturally rich in antioxidants and vitamin A as well as beta-carotene and lutein for good  eyesight. Corn is known for its high fiber content, a quality valued by the figure-conscious. In addition, corn has no cholesterol and has lower glycemic index  for controlled and balance blood sugar that is ideal for diabetics and weight watchers.

Mr Jebe Gayanelo, President of Philippine Leading Infinite Logistics Inc.

Preparation is not different from what we are accustomed in doing. At the recent launch of RiCo, RiCo's very own chef Joey dela Cruz demonstrated the three easy steps of cooking RiCo: BOIL, POUR and SIMMER. Boil the suggested amount of water. Then, pour the desired amount of RiCo. Finally, simmer for about 10 to 15 minutes. To prevent loss of water-soluble nutrients, the grains should not be washed. If a loose and fluffy consistency or buhaghag is preferred, RiCo should be cooked like pasta: boil water, put in RiCo, and then, drain. RiCo retains its yellow hue even after it is cooked.

During the launch, Chef Jessie Sincioco demonstrated the versatility of the ingredient through a sit-down meal.

At home, you can use RiCo in your daily favorites such as sinangag, java rice, yang chow rice and paella.

The locally produced RiCo is a first from the Philippines. RiCo is available in 1kg, 2kg and 5kg packs in supermarkets nationwide.

Perfecting the one-third pound pure beef patties at 80% lean and 20% fat, Wham’s burger patties are gently seasoned only with natural flavor enhancers such as salt and black pepper. The time-tested Wham Burger with Cheese (P129), Double Whammy with Cheese (P199), Kapow  (P199), Bronco Burger (P199), and Whammer (P259) still remains the ultimate standard for the best gourmet burgers but the new Sausage Sandwich items will surely make all hearts skip a beat, especially for  gastronomes on the look out for flavorful and succulent sausage varieties.

Wiener
Schublig with Cheese
At a very friendly price of P135, the Wiener is a savory artisan recipe sausage made with original house blend ingredients. Not to be outdone is Schublig with Cheese (P149), an encounter with certified Swiss sausage made with beef and pork, spiced up with non-fat milk, finely ground onion and creamy cheese center.  Beer and sausage proved to be a stellar combo; but the slow-grilled Beer Sausage  (P149) simmered in beer and onion makes the perfect hot and juicy full meal with slightly salty umami taste. Upgrade to a combo and complement the burger or sandwich with crispy, golden fries for a minimum extra charge and seize with excitement other side dishes such as Cross Traxx, Onion Rings, Onion Strings, Potato Wedges or Pepper Popper. Kids hankering for a bright red and festive Filipino-style Spaghetti with generous cheese on top will also find the Spaghetti very satisfying for an extra charge of only P20. True to its crunchy, huge and with a ratio of 95 percent chicken versus the breading, the Premium Chicken Sandwich with Cheese (P165) are for those who can’t get enough of the meaty chicken, crisp lettuce and sharp-flavored mayonnaise beautifully layered in a soft kaiser bun.

Taking the new menu on a higher level are Wham’s top quality selections of  both local and imported brands of beer which will make a good burger nothing like a typical stuff. From San Mig Pale Pilsen, San Mig Light or Super Dry, its smooth and rich flavor signifies a mix of comfort and relaxation. While for more sophisticated palates, Holland brand Bavaria has a provocative light bitterness made from pure barley malt and wheat. Bottomless soda is another insanely rewarding thirst-quencher and can truly make a difference to anyone’s burger indulgence.

The new outlet is nothing but hip, modern and intricately constructed with a touch of outdoor picnic vibe—a hangout for families and friends getting together to enjoy a great meal experience that don’t cost a fortune.
