I am always been fascinated with night sky. Brings me back to those high school trips to the observatory; just looking at the vast sky, either locating constellations or waiting for shooting stars.

Last night made quite a buzz in social media. My news feed began swarming with moon photos. These photos were showing the moon with a halo. I went out and saw this amazing view up.

But what is a lunar halo or moon halo?

According to experts, this occurs when high thin clouds containing millions of tiny ice crystals cover much of the sky. Each ice crystal acts like a miniature lens. Because most of the crystals have a similar elongated hexagonal shape, light entering one crystal face and exiting through the opposing face refracts 22 degrees, which corresponds to the radius of the Moon Halo.
