The Philippine Volcanoes, the national Rugby team, starred in a viral video to promote the campaign.
Over 160 video entries were submitted via www.facebook.com/globeph. The video entries were then judged and the budding videographers who sent in the top entries won prizes, including Nokia Lumia phones and all-expense paid vacation in Boracay. Globe and the DOT will also use the best clips to produce a new global advertisement that will air on international cable TV as well as on video screens in the world’s most popular public squares, including Times Square in New York.
“With millions of Filipinos living abroad, practically in almost every country and territory around the world, we felt that our people are the best tourism ambassadors for the country. By crowdsourcing video of family vacations, getaway trips with friends or even having fun in their hometown, we find a rich source of real stories and experiences that we can share with the rest of the world, enticing them to come to the Philippines,” said Rizza Maniego-Eala, Group Head for International Business of Globe Telecom.
On top of the new global ad, Globe, through the International Business Group, and the DOT will also jointly promote tourism in the former’s on-ground activities in various countries.
“The next step for us is to ensure that the buzz created by the ‘It’s More Fun’ campaign generates momentum, brings in the tourists and becomes a sustainable campaign to drive our tourist arrivals up,” said Tourism Assistant Secretary Domingo Ramon Enerio, “The world-widest international coverage of Globe will surely help us at the Department of Tourism carry the message that it is more fun in the Philippines to more places around the world, reaching a much wider audience and attracting more people to come visit the country, It’s truly a strategic partnership that synergizes resources for the good of our country.”
The DOT is hoping its campaign "It's More Fun in the Philippines" would further boost tourism figures this year, to 4.6 million tourist arrivals; and to 10 million by 2016.
The DOT also continued its partnership with Globe Telecom for the “Pinoy Homecoming,” campaign, a five-year program that encourages overseas Filipinos to come and visit their roots and rediscover the beauty of the Philippines. Consistent with Presidential Proclamation No. 181, declaring 2011 until 2016 as “Pinoy Homecoming Years,” overseas Filipinos are given special privileges and benefits in recognition of their contributions to the growth of the economy in terms of foreign exchange inflow and remittances such as perks, discounts and freebies from the DoT partner merchants.
On top of its support for the Department of Tourism, Globe is also partnered with the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) for free WiFi service at all terminals of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, including the Manila Domestic Air Terminal.
“We at Globe are happy to be one of the catalysts of the country’s tourism industry,” Maniego-Eala adds,” As we help spur more tourist arrivals, we are committed to enabling them to have the best experience as they travel through our telecommunications services--whether they roam using the Globe network with their foreign SIM, or if they choose to use a Globe prepaid SIM and during their stay. As we are in the thick of a massive $700-M network modernization program, we assure the DOT that our top tourist destinations in the country are prioritized in the roll-out of the new Globe network.”
Globe has the widest international coverage among all Philippine telecommunication companies, with over 600 roaming partners worldwide. It also has the lowest IDD and international SMS rates to and from the Philippines.
